BSA Calculator

Insurances and Body Surface Area:Recently many insurances have begun using a calculation called BSA or Body Surface Area as at least part of their determination about coverage of breast reductions. The calculation of Body Surface Area involves use of height and weight.

Although we will do this calculation for you at your appointment, we are providing information here on the calculation to assist patients who are interested. To calculate your BSA, enter your height and weight and then click the Calculate button.

Because BSA is typically calculated using kilograms and centimeters, the system allows for use of either kilograms or pounds, and centimeters or inches. After you have completed your calculation you can hit the Reset button to clear and enter new figures.

The calculation used is that of DuBois and DuBois:   BSA=(W0.425 X H0.725) X 0.007184
W = weight in kilograms and H is height in centimeters (although above calculator will adjust to inches and pounds)
